06/25/07 - Gator-Ply® Enviro-Backer™ Earns GREENGUARD Certification The Uniwood® business of Alcan Composites USA is pleased to announce that its new Gator-Ply® Enviro-Backer™ has been awarded GREENGUARD Certification by the Atlanta-based GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI). This certification signifies that Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer is in compliance with the stringent emission guidelines set by GEI. Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer will be exhibited by Alcan Composites USA in Booth No. 1454 at the AWFS® Fair 2007 to be held July 18-21 in the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., and sponsored by the Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers. Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer is manufactured with an alternative resin system that does not require the addition of formaldehyde. Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer is an economic alternative to conventional wood veneers and high-pressure laminates (HPL) that is manufactured with an alternative resin system that does not require the addition of formaldehyde. Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer was introduced this spring as the newest addition to the Gator-Ply wood-fiber veneer product line. Gator-Ply is the original specialty engineered man-made wood-fiber veneer introduced by the Uniwood business more than 30 years ago. Gator-Ply is used as a backing material in three-ply and five-ply panel construction for the office and residential furniture markets and display industry. “The market has expressed a great deal of interest in our new Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer, with sales especially strong in the office furniture segment,” said Lynette Tullos, sales manager, Uniwood. “With states such as California enacting more stringent air quality standards, ‘green’ products such as Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer will become in even greater demand by our customers. Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer is a chemically low-emitting wood-fiber veneer product that is designed to meet industry green initiatives for improved indoor air quality.” Uniwood marketing technical services personnel developed Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer with the assistance of Air Quality Sciences, Inc., the Marietta, Ga.-based indoor air quality testing and consulting center. GEI is an independent, non-profit organization which – as an ANSI Authorized Standards Developer – establishes acceptable indoor air standards for indoor products, environments and buildings. Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer can be used in both high-pressure and veneer backer applications. And, just like original Gator-Ply, Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer helps furniture manufacturers to cut costs as the lower-cost alternative to conventional wood and HPL backers. Gator-Ply Enviro-Backer is available in standard stock sheets in the .016-inch thickness in the dark brown color. Cut-to-size service is available upon request.
